Gateway mode

The more ambitious path, with the most careful caveats

Gateway mode is where IoTSentinel becomes more than a visibility project. It is also the part that needs the most honesty, because once the Pi sits in the traffic path, mistakes have real network consequences.

What gateway mode is

Gateway mode routes device traffic through the Pi so the project can move from light visibility into deeper inspection, anomaly signals, and inline response paths.

Why it matters

This is the path that unlocks the strongest differentiators: real-time anomaly work, richer investigations, and more meaningful IDS/IPS behavior beyond passive observation.

Why the framing is careful

Routing traffic is a higher-stakes feature than showing a dashboard. That means setup safety, lockout avoidance, hardware variance, and documentation all matter more here.

Current status

The project already contains important gateway-oriented building blocks, but this path is still being hardened and documented. It is a roadmap-forward capability, not the part of the project to oversell.

What the site is trying to communicate

Available now

Passive-first monitoring and the broader visibility/AI experience.

Selectable or emerging

Gateway-oriented capabilities that already exist in some form and are being turned into a cleaner path.

Not to oversell

Mature support, broad appliance polish, and the deployment certainty commercial competitors already provide.
